This week's theme is Sex on the Beach. While this is a simple drink made of Vodka, Orange Juice, Cranberry Juice, Peach Schnapps, Ice, and a Lemon. It actually has a complicated history....... The story goes that Ted, a bartender at Confetti's came up with the drink in an attempt to win a contest put on by a Peach Schnapps company..... His genius was not to name the drink after its ingredients but as a fun thing to say for the tourist to order. Since, the contest was taking place over spring break it was apparent that "sex" and "beach" would be an easy sell to the scantily clad college kids. However, during a deep dive of research, the Mental Floss found a recipe called Sex on the Beach in a bartenders drink recipe book from 1982. The recipe book was published 5 years before Ted's success with the drink over spring break.
In an effort to make things even more confusing, it is thought that the drink has actually been in existence for much longer. According to the drink philosophers, it was most likely a combo of the Cape Codder and a Fuzzy Navel. The Fuzzy Navel is of course made with Orange Juice and Peach Schnapps. When you throw that into a Cape Codder which is cranberry juice and Vodka you have some serious Sex on the Beach?????? At least they didn't call it a Fuzzy Codder because that sounds creepy!
Lucky for us it is getting toward the end of the summer and we have the opportunity to enjoy a little Sex on the Beach..... Fresh Booze style!
